Foreign driver's license switch
Regarding the "Gaimen Kagari" (gaimenkagari) process, which allows drivers to switch their driver's license obtained abroad to a Japanese license, the National Police Agency has decided to require address verification using a copy of a resident's card as a general rule, and to not allow short-term visitors such as tourists from overseas to switch their license. After soliciting public comments from the 11th, the agency hopes to revise the system from October of this year. The "Gaimen Kakari" system allows people with foreign driver's licenses to obtain a Japanese driver's license if they are deemed to have the necessary knowledge and skills to drive in Japan. According to the National Police Agency, the number of foreigners who obtained Japanese licenses under this system last year reached a record high of over 68,000. I thought this kind of policy was very good because traffic laws are different between foreign countries and Japan. Reference: https...
