The price of rice

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries compiles the selling prices of rice at approximately 1,000 supermarkets across the country and publishes them every week.From the graph below, rice prices have fallen for the first time in 18 weeks since December last year. However, the price is still about double compared to the same period last year.

As rice prices continue to soar, the city of Kouno, Osaka Prefecture, has decided to reduce the number of meals served at elementary and junior high schools in the city from three times a week to two times from the second semester after the summer vacation.

I've seen rice prices go up in supermarkets. I also thought that Japan, like the city of Kouno in Osaka Prefecture, should consider and take measures to deal with the soaring price of rice.
